Coronavirus - Our Position
This page was updated on 23rd March 2020 and reflects our position at that time.
With the current coronavirus outbreak many talking newspapers have chosen to shut down completely or to provide an Internet-only service. This is because of the risk of carrying coronavirus on the envelopes or memory sticks.
Royal Mail's current statement is: "Public Health England has advised that people receiving parcels are not at risk of contracting the coronavirus". Government advice for employers says "Staff should continue to follow existing risk assessments and safe systems of working, there are no additional precautions needed for handling post or packages". The Talking News Federation provides similar advice.
We have decided to carry on sending out memory sticks but to change our processes slightly.
- All the copying and distribution is done by one person.
- Each listener has their own set of envelopes, although they will be mixed with others while in the postal system.
- Each memory stick and the inside of each envelope is wiped with disinfectant and left damp.
Washing your hands with soap and hot water is advised after handling the envelope or memory stick.
Of course our policy will change if government or Royal Mail advice changes.
