Welcome to the website of Crewe and Nantwich Talking Newspaper. This is a free service not just for the visually impaired but for anyone who has a medical or age-related condition that prevents them from reading a printed newspaper.
The Talking Newspaper is published weekly and provides a spoken summary of local news from the Crewe and Nantwich Chronicles and thenantwichnews.co.uk website. In addition there is usually a quiz, a short story and other articles of local interest. We aim for a programme length of about 90 minutes.
Many listeners now receive the Talking Newspaper via the Internet services through Alexa or this web page. For listeners without an Internet connection an app is available for smartphones which can download the newspaper using the phone's mobile data allowance. These services can be used by any qualifying listener. For visually impaired listeners the newspaper can delivered on memory sticks that can be played on your computer, or on a player that we can provide.
Several care homes use our service via the Internet. Residents join together to listen to the news over a cup of tea.
The Talking Newspaper is run by a team of unpaid volunteers who work for a few hours on a four-weekly rota. If you are interested in joining us you can see more about becoming a listener or volunteering.
Audio files on this website are for use only by the visually impaired and anyone who has a medical or age-related condition that prevents them from reading a printed newspaper.
